Vegas Hold Check by VegasCost

How Much Will Your Vegas Hotel Hold at Check-In?

Your room may already be paid for, but your hotel can still place a temporary authorization on your credit or debit card. Check before you arrive.

Start typing a hotel name or nickname — “Cosmo”, “MGM” or “Park” all work.

Why hotels place incidental holds

Hotels authorize an amount at check-in to cover things you might charge to the room, or as a security deposit. It is not an extra fee, and unused amounts are generally released after checkout — but while it is active the authorization temporarily reduces your available credit. With a debit card it is more noticeable: real cash in your bank account can be unavailable until your bank returns it.

Is this the same as a resort fee?

No. A resort fee is a mandatory lodging charge. An incidental authorization/security deposit is generally intended to cover potential charges or incidentals during the stay and may be released after checkout depending on the hotel’s policy and payment method.

Is a hotel hold the same as a resort fee?
No. A resort fee is a mandatory lodging charge. An incidental authorization or security deposit is generally intended to cover potential charges or incidentals during the stay and may be released after checkout depending on the hotel's policy and payment method.
How much do Las Vegas hotels hold on your card?
It varies by property. Verified examples include MGM Grand and Park MGM at $100 per day up to $400, The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas at $150 per day, and Wynn Las Vegas at $150 per night for incidentals on top of room, fees and tax.
Do I still get a hold if my room is already paid for?
Usually yes. A prepaid room covers the room rate, but hotels can still place a separate authorization at check-in for incidentals or as a security deposit.
What happens if I use a debit card?
With a debit card the authorization can make real cash temporarily unavailable in your bank account rather than only reducing available credit. Some hotels, including The Cosmopolitan, state the remaining funds can take 7–10 business days to be returned after checkout.
When is the hold released?
Release timing depends on the hotel and your bank. Any unused amount is typically released at or shortly after checkout, but the funds can take several business days to reappear.
